FAQs

What climate is best suited to the Wollemi™ Pine?
In Australia the Wollemi Pine has grown well in a range of temperatures and humidity levels, from 23°F to 113°F (–5°C to 45°C) and trials in North America and Japan have indicated that it can survive temperatures as cold as 10°F (–12°C). The Wollemi Pine can be grown outdoors in USDA Zone 7 - 11.

How tall does the Wollemi™ Pine grow?
In optimal conditions a young Wollemi Pine (up to 18 months of age) will grow around 18” (half a meter) each year, while a more mature plant will grow around 36” (one meter) per year—perhaps reaching a height of 65’ (20m) during its lifetime. If the plant is not fertilized or kept in medium to low light conditions, it will grow more slowly.

Where can I grow the Wollemi™ Pine?
Hardy to USDA Zones 7 - 11, the Pine can even be grown in colder zones outside in summer months, then brought inside during winter and grown as a house plant. For an outdoor living area such as a balcony or courtyard, choose a sheltered location out of the full sun. Indoors, your Wollemi Pine should be placed in a well-lit position preferably near a window or doorway. As with all indoor plants, especially trees, the Wollemi Pine occasionally needs to be placed outdoors in a sheltered, shaded area. It is recommended this be done for one week out of every month when temperatures are above freezing.

Growing the Wollemi™ Pine
.........................
The Wollemi Pine will make an ideal feature tree for large gardens, and parklands, but can also be maintained in a pot on patios, verandahs and in courtyards. It can be used as indoor decoration in well lit areas and tolerates air conditioning.

The ultimate survivor, the Wollemi Pine has proven to be hardy and versatile in cultivation. It is not only attractive and striking in appearance, it is easy to grow and low maintenance. It will adapt to a diverse range of climatic conditions, thriving in full sun to semi-shaded outdoor positions.
